I grew up in River Edge, New Jersey and went to Roosevelt Elementary School, then River Dell High, and later college at Rutgers University. I majored in English literature. After that I moved to the east village and went to NYU and after that Columbia University to study film. I've lived in New York since 1977.
I taught film at School of Visual Arts, Long Island University, USC, the North Carolina School of Arts and New York University.
In the clearing stands a boxer,
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of ev'ry glove that laid him down
And cut him till he cried out
In his anger and his shame,
"I am leaving, I am leaving."
But the fighter still remains
